Getting covered by multimedia

http://videos.charlotte.com/vmix_hosted_apps/p/media?id=1679255

I was fortunate to be on the receiving end of a multimedia story yesterday. A couple of photographers from The Observer did a slideshow with sound about a new organ at my church.
Makes me realize there's great wisdom in the idea that every journalist should be the subject of a story to learn what it feels like.

Yep.
Regret never having him as a prof. But his "Vanishing Newspaper" gave me much-needed perspective for a paper last semester. Paraphrasing one of his quotes (that I've saved somewhere):
"The challenges in newspapers now are not part of a cyclical downturn in the economy. We have to change."
Coming from a guy with lots of historical perspective, companies need to listen up.

Hi, Andria. Phil's awesome -- his speech makes that so obvious, doesn't it?

Andria, Thank you for your advice. I know this profession isn't a kind one when it comes to being picky about geographical location. I just have my heart set on the Charlotte area (with my soon-to-be fiance). I'm very willing to look for work in a different field in communications, I'm just trying to figure out what I'm qualified for. Thanks again!

Andria, thanks for your comments. Your current user gallery looks like a good start — for usability, I'd suggest a highlight on the number of the photo currently in view.

Sometimes I wish we had a wide-open reader gallery like yours. Our current reader galleries are constrained into rather specific topics, which can exclude completely random photos.

I'm not a fan of VMIX. The Star uses it for video, and to deploy Flash slideshows. I find its interface cranky at best. Case in point: in your sample, there's no slideshow-style navigation (as there is in your live reader gallery).

Glad to hear of your interest in this topic. I'm hoping to meet more folks like you on this network.

Hi, Andria. Good to hear from you. I'm looking to learn anything I can. We're looking forward to the new CCI system on the desk.

Andria,

About combining RSS feeds -- the easiest way I know of is through Feedblendr.com. No registration is required, just type in the URLs.

I lobbied on your behalf. He agreed to join, and told me to tell you to "get back to work." :)
