- Michelle Ferrier is the managing editor for online community hubs at MyTopiaCafe.com, a project of the Daytona Beach News-Journal and a columnist for the newspaper. She is reponsible for editorial development, marketing, community partnerships and technology development. She is a scholar/practitioner/entrepreneur in new media, particularly online communities, online learning and digital identity. Michelle is a former assistant professor of mass communications and earned a Ph.D. in Texts and Technology from the University of Central Florida. She is developing a social networking platforms that allows users to create a digital identity object embedded with stories, photos and other multimedia content. The technology is revelant not only to news organizations, but to larger knowledge management initiatives. Increasingly, as blogs, wikis and other Web. 2.0 applications emerge, identifying the source of posted content become paramount. A rich, digital identity object provides the context to content on the Web.
